Training with The Solent SCITT (Primary) gives you an opportunity to experience outstanding practice, following a bespoke primary training programme (PTP) which will enable you to become a highly competent teacher.
Trainees will access outstanding teachers who demonstrate current and innovative practice in the classroom. You will gain experience from within The Solent Teaching School Alliance which includes infant, junior, primary and special schools. The length, breadth, and content of the training will be flexible, taking account of your individual previous achievements, strengths and areas of development and ongoing interests.
The majority of the 50+ days of out of school training, has been developed by experienced teachers and headteachers and will be delivered by expert teachers in partnership schools who have a proven track record in their fields of excellence. Successful candidates will be assigned to a partnership school which will serve as the main training school. All trainees will teach across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and experience teaching in a second contrasting school within the partnership. This second school experience takes place in the spring term and is approximately six weeks long.
Our 2016/17 programme is available here.
Your school based mentor has responsibility for ensuring that you have an appropriate Individual Training Plan (ITP) and that you have every opportunity to meet the professional standards for Qualified Teacher Status. For the duration of your training your timetable will be at a rate which is managed and agreed with your mentor, headteacher and Director of Initial Teacher Training.
